Paris | Arrival

We took a Thalys train from Cologne to Paris — definitely the way to travel! Heath spent most of the trip talking with the German gentlemen we were sharing seats with, Thomas and Raph. I read. :-)

We arrived in Paris a little after 7pm and took a cab to our hotel: The Marriott Rive Gauche. It's situated on a typical Paris street in the Left Bank, just a 10-minute Metro ride from the Eiffel Tower. We ended up in a gorgeous room on the 16th floor. Great views were not Heath's favorite part of the hotel, however. As some of you may know, Europe isn't big on serving free tap water. Heath, on the other hand, usually drinks like 3 gallons of water a day. Needless to say, he was getting a little sick of expensive Pellegrino. But thank you Lord, the hotel has a crushed ice and water just steps from our door.

After dropping our stuff we took the concierge's recommendation and walked around the corner to L'Alloutte, a neighborhood bistro, for dinner. For starters, we had this avocado and prawn dish that was killer! We both followed up with hearty salads, wine, and an amazing rhubarb tart for dessert.

It was the PERFECT way to start our trip!
